Note: Hello! This is the first in a series of biography blogs about everyone who is key in bringing the Book of The North to life! Every week, we will feature a new individual. My name is Abby Magruder and I am a senior at UMD finishing a B.S. in Biology. I have been working at the Land Lab for 2 years and this year I co-managed the farm! This year the farm was almost completely student run. We started all of our plants from seed and planted our fields by hand. We had a very successful season in harvest, expanding our knowledge, and connecting with the community. The Land Lab also has many incredible research and project opportunities that I have been able to be a part of. The Book of the North is just one project that we had going on around the farm. Others I have been involved in are the Assisted Tree Migration and biochar research in agriculture. Besides the Land Lab, I also run a student club called Plant the Revolution. Plant the Revolution has been a really important part of my time at UMD. The goal of this club is to connect students with sustainability, agriculture, and just being outdoors. I love bringing students out to the farm to experience everything it has to offer. My favorite club event has been bringing students to Marbleseed, which is an organic farming conference in La Crosse Wisconsin.
